Great book, but if you already own the first book of one-block wonders there’s not a lot more information. If you were to buy just one then this is the one to get.

One-Block Wonders Encore!: New Shapes, Multiple Fabrics, Out-of-This-World Quilts
Excellent book, easy to read and understand instructions . . .and . . . it has the instructions for the “boxes” that were not in the first book. Exciting quilts can be made from this book.

OK, so I bought the first book, One Block Wonders and was awestruck! The colors and designs were so intriguing and beautiful and I ran out, bought fabric and made several quilt tops. (Caution beginners: There are no instructions for how to add a border, bind, etc. The book just states, “Quilt and bind.”). At the time I was a bit annoyed that the book showed cubes in the quilts but did not have the instructions, as I felt it was a bit dishonest, but I was willing to “forgive.” Well, loe and behold, some months later, another book appeared: the ENCORE! book. Overally, I don’t find the quilts in this book as beautiful or interesting as the first (color- or design-wise) but at least the instructions for cubes are included…but not for ALL the cubes shown in the book. Now I see that the authors have yet another book coming out in the SPring and there, on the cover, is the “missing” cube that she didn’t give instructions for in ENCORE!. I won’t buy this book (I actually figured out how to construct the missing cube myself) and I’m getting more and more annoyed at her tactics. Bascially, all of this information could have been included in a single book instead of making folks buy 3 of them, with so much redundant information in each. I would offer this advice: look at the designs in the first book for inspiration, and buy the second one (or wait until the spring and buy the third). Once you get the hang of it, you can make up your own patterns using the basic hexagon design.

Its always a lottery buying a craft book over the internet going by the small amount of input there is on it so I was blown away by this book. I am still gathering materials but can’t wait to start. It has very clear instructions and looks like a winner. Will be a keeper.

This has so much potential, it is hard to review. There is no limit to the possibilities that this book brings to mind. Highly recommended for the design potential alone.
